Googlelinking Mathematics
When you click Google's "I'm feeling lucky" button, you're immediately taken to the page with the "best result" for your input search terms. It's possible to compose a URL that mimics this effect. For example, the URL will immediately transfer you to the web page that Google currently considers best for the term algebraic geometry (to see that this works, copy the URL into the address bar of your browser).http://www.google.com/search?q='algebraic+geometry'&btnI=Google+Search I call it Googlelinking. On this page, I've used some home-brewed software to googlelink many of the terms in the Mathematics Subject Classification (MSC), which is used to categorize mathematics research covered by the two reviewing databases, Mathematical Reviews (MR) and Zentralblatt MATH (Zbl). I haven't linked everything, only things that seem to return reasonable results. The result is a sort of rough-hewn and idiosyncratic Mathematical Encyclopedia that doesn't suffer from the broken or outdated links (ie, linkrot problems) that plague many other pages that attempt to bring together mathematics resources from many different web sites. Happy clicking! I welcome feedback at thane@best.com. |
